essay by kelly s. johnson, "advent: a weary world rejoices?"

this article does a good job of naming my ambivalence about christmas. it is not just the consumerism. it's the strange loss of an advent season of dreary, hard-won hope. in my thirst for a christmas that marvels in the incarnation, i've gotten lost in bitterness toward the santa clause version of christmas. frustration does not transfigure the secular into the sacred.
