I was up late last night, unable to sleep, reading the articles that ended up on the cover of the LA Times this morning. I read them again this morning, as well as this one. In it, Barbara Crafton writes about "the kind thousandfold baking of casseroles and cakes for families who cannot bring themselves to eat."
It's my job to cook the meal for our bible study tonight, and I find myself so grateful to be charged with the task of cutting asparagus and opening cans of chicken stock. I'll have a simple hope today: that the soup will turn out all right, because I'm making it up as I go along.
Lord, have mercy.
