I was convinced that my Microsoft Word Toolbox was completely missing a word. "Bonified" didn't show up in the Dictionary or the Thesaurus.
And then the moment of revelation: "bonified" ain't a word anymore than "ain't" is. (Remember that singsong chant from elementary school - ain't ain't a word 'cuz it ain't in the dictionary"?)
Bona fide: 1542, from L., lit. "in good faith," abl. of bona fides "good faith." (Etymonline)
And to think I took four years of Latin to come to this disgrace!!
