Except, um, you spelled my name wrong

I've worked really hard to get the pictures off Juliette's broken camera; after a couple failed attempts, I bought a card reader on Amazon. We had taken the camera with us to Florida, so I'd hoped for some great vacation memories. I was ever-so-slightly disappointed that the "roll" consisted mostly of blurry snapshots of cars and genuinely terrible candids of Ben and me. (I have come to the conclusion that I am a reasonably photogenic person who turns into a slack-faced blob when I don't know my picture is being taken.)

There were a couple great shots, including this one of Heidi and me impersonating beach bums.

This photo reminded me of a tale I've been meaning to tell for some time now. It is entirely possible that it is only hilariously funny to me, but when I reread this series of Facebook messages, I laughed out loud all over again. I also love that it more or less inventories many of the highlights of our fairly recent yet warm and adventurous friendship.

The context: I had just asked Heidi if I could use her photo for a Women in Ministry post (a post which, incidentally, is the eighth-most popular post on my blog, ever).

Shared with permission from the remarkably photogenic and altogether delightful Reverend Haverkamp herself.

Hey Katherine - for some reason, I can only post as the church on that photo. But go ahead and use it. Thanks!

I am presuming Adam took this picture?

Is this an ok bio, stolen from your church website?: Heidi Havercamp blogs at the Vicar of Bolingbrook and ministers alongside the people of the The Episcopal Church of St. Benedict. Her gifts for ministry include teaching, preaching, spiritual guidance and counseling, worship planning, and developing and supporting lay leadership. She also has experience as an organic farmer, mental health worker, cook, and legal secretary, and led a small church in rural New England for a year as a lay interim pastor. Heidi grew up in Hyde Park, on the south side of Chicago, and now enjoys the wide-open spaces of the western suburbs and the constant availability of parking spaces. She likes to garden, cook, and spend time with her husband, Adam Frieberg, an ordained minister in The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Sure! Except, um, you spelled my name wrong.

I'm calling it A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words, and linking to the church facebook page with the rest of the album, and putting the scripture from Acts about God pouring ha ha ha ha ha

    Sorry!!

I really do know how to spell your name

I'm still recovering from the stomach flu

    Sounds great! Very fun.

You used to spell my name Katharine, so we're even

Or, you know, you did it once, but it wasn't for publication so I didn't say anything

    You are a good friend.

No, I am a TERRIBLE friend. As it turns out, I have been misspelling your name ever since I met you. I googled "havercamp" in gmail and it is all over the place. Like, every time I have ever referred to you. "Heidi Havercamp is going to the Festival of Faith and Writing, too!" "Hey Lee and Bromleigh, I'm supposed to have lunch with Heidi Havercamp soon - do you know her?" Please forgive me.

To Ben, in 2011: "I'm having lunch - Indian food - with Heidi Havercamp, yay!"

Katherine. You're AWESOME. And you make me laugh out loud. Thank you. (I forgive you!) I'm sure I've done or said things to you, too, that weren't perfect or suitable. So, forgive me too and we can be even!

To Erika, shortly thereafter: "I'm going to the show tonight with Heidi Havercamp. I don't think you know her but you'd like her, I think. Writerly Episcopal priest in Bollingbrook." At least I misspelled Bolingbrook, too. It's not personal.

    Thank you.

Okay, I'm going to stop now, but this is really cracking me up, in a totally ridiculous, cringey way: "I need to cancel the kayaking reservation for Pershey and Havercamp for July 6th at 11am. I'll reschedule through your website. Thanks!"

And then I signed Havercamp up for ice-cream making with Jeni. Oh, my Lord.

October 2011, to Bromleigh: "We have Heidi Havercamp's incredibly sweet dog this week."

I miss you too. I'm mostly better, Ben is on the upswing. (I also recommended Heidi Havercamp to write for the Upper Room Disciplines. I am mortified.)

You've seriously made my night. This is almost as good as when I got a nametag that said, "Heidi Haverkamp, Victor of St. Benedict."
